Freezing For Peace

A familiar site on the corner of Hwys 27 & 63 in Hayward Wisconsin on the third Friday of each month is a group of committed peace and social justice activists holding signs that state their convictions. The twenty below zero windchill did not deter two dozen dedicated heroes for peace on January 18th. They braved the freezing cold for an hour in observance of Iraq Moratorium Day # 5.
Responses from motorists were mostly encouraging. Passersby seemed both delighted, and incredulous that in spite of the biting cold, the group was present on the corner. At 4:45 pm, some folks suggested that the group knock off early due to the bitterly cold winds, but a couple of hardcore skier/peace types responded with, "No! We came to stand for an hour, and for an hour we'll stand!" At 5:00 pm sharp, a great cheer went up and these local heroes headed for home. We look forward to having you join us on February 15th for the next Iraq War Moratorium.
